Go Heritage 2019 - Day 6

Go Heritage 2019 - Day 6 (7/2/19)

There is always traffic in Lagos. It is especially congested during the rain. This congestion however is helpful for a whole workforce of people who are selling goods throughout the streets. In every direction there are superbly balanced large trays or bowls atop strong, straight-necked heads. Like the impulse-buy items in a grocery store line, they hold snacks and trinkets for passersby. This is their daily living.

On the other hand, the rain is not so helpful when you have a tight schedule and want to get things done. Today we scheduled to go to Lekki Conservation Centre, but by the time we arrived, it was already about to close so was not possible to visit. I was really looking forward to that one. But, I have quickly learned flexibility is important when trying to get things done here so we decided on The National Theatre as an alternative.

We arrived at The National Museum, however, for yet another disappointment, as it was too late for us to enter there as well. Honestly though, just driving through the streets, seeing all the people and buildings and cultural/social differences is such an excursion all of its own.

At any rate, we spotted a nice park across from the theatre and decided to take some photos with another photographer friend here, Lucas, as I wore the PALA vest in front of a valiant statue of Queen Amina  mounted on a horse.

It was getting later so I got dinner and headed to the hotel. Food has been a more difficult arena to navigate. Everyone loves meat, meat, meat! And of course, I'm vegetarian so finding good things to eat can be a challenge. But, I definitely have found great cuisine. Earlier in the day, I decided to be adventurous and try the boiled walnuts I kept seeing all the vendors trying to sell; it was NOT a good choice for me. Luckily, I had better luck with dinner than the pitiful snack. Tonight's selection included beans & rice, plantains, and egusi. Though I find the restaurant's name, Maga Chicken, quite hilarious and ironic for me, there is so much flavor and so much spice!

We have a long trek in the morning so I will attempt to head to bed early but the time difference keeps me up at night (that and Netflix haha).
