Go Heritage 2019 - Day 5

Project Africa
Go Heritage 2019 - Day 1 (6/26/19)

Praise and worship, even so far across the waters, feels great when there is a genuine God-connection present. We started off the morning at Adore's church, DayStar for a powerful message about sowing into your eternity dimension. "We do things within the context of current time that have impact on the eternity dimension". That discussion smoothly transitioned into how being in a leadership position grants you influence. "How are you using your influence...which not only affects your current time but also eternity." It made me reflect on the positions of leadership I have earned, been gifted, achieved through His grace and will, and how to continue using that influence to emit good into the world. I am grateful for the opportunity.

We received the message and had a couple of hours to reflect and also just to learn more about each other before heading off to Takwa Bay for quite the beach experience. I had three culture shock moments. The first: In order to get to the beach, one has to ride on a BOAT to the sandy shores. The second: The beach costs money, N200, to enter. The third: no one really brings beach towels and umbrellas and such to sit on the sand; if you want to sit, most pay a fee to sit in shaded party sections away from the actual sand and water. I let all those differences soak in, along with the sun, while enjoying the cool breeze and a coconut.

As I may have mentioned in a caption on a previous post, my Nigerian friend, Adore, is a prolific photographer so after taking a bumpy ride on a sleepy horse, we made our way down the shore for a photoshoot! Stay tuned for photos.

The beach is always a fun, yet draining experience, but the day only subsided for the night to begin. We headed back to the hotel for a quick shower and wardrobe switch up then arrived at the African Shine for a lively, colorful, and festive musical performance from Fela Kuti's son, Femi Kuti! I even got to come on stage during and had a great moment with his dancers. It was pretty epic.

KNOW YOURSELF. HONOR YOUR PAST. FORGE YOUR FUTURE.

Rahkua
