Back II Afrika - Day 6 (7/19/18)

Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika
Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo,

Yizwa imithandazo yethu,
Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo.

orena boloka setjhaba sa heso,
O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho,
O se boloke, O se boloke setjhaba sa heso,
Setjhaba sa, South Afrika, South Afrika.

Uit die blou van onse hemel,
Uit die diepte van ons see,
Oor ons ewige gebergtes,
Waar die kranse antwoord gee,

Sounds the call to come together,
And united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom
In South Africa our land!

- South African National Anthem, 1997

Vaal University is a beautiful testament to the technological innovations being made in South Africa as well as the strong nationalism and devotion to the betterment of country and people that they have integrated into their daily philosophy. We were taken on a tour of the 3D printing facilities where our guide talked about many things including the production of prosthetic limbs they were able to generate for a TENTH of the average price, aviation advancements with the aircraft components they print, and the community program they developed, which is open to anyone, individual and/or company, that teaches how to design prototypes and operate the 3D printers... all in a township!

As if all those things weren't inspirational enough, afterwards we got a very motivational speech from VUT executive director, Dr. Joe Molete, (author of Finding Your Sweet Spot) about working with intention, perseverance, and purpose to become successful and being serious about education and developing a good social and financial network. The whole speech was prefaced by their national anthem which features 5 of their 11 official languages.

STAY STRONG. STAY EXCELLENT. STAY CONNECTED.

Amani,
Rahkua
